Initiating a new international chapter of an American association, we did not want to ”invent the wheel” and develop a local association.
So often we look at things primarily from the American perspective. If an organization is to be truly global it needs to encompass the thinking of all of its participants inclusively.
To this end, a longstanding colleague from Germany offered this perspective when I asked what was important to establishing the American association we both worked for in Germany.
If America hopes to maintain its thought leadership in the world, we need to realize that good ideas come from everywhere around that world.
As important as establishing the goals and thinking for an organization to go global there should be a realistic timeline in which to accomplish those goals and growth.
